yo jim…i grew up in SWP at 60th and Reinhard..graduated from West in 66…the military took me to the midwest, and my medical practice took me to norfolk, nebraska( 10 miles from tilden, neb…Richies hometown)
One of my patients was a grand-nephew of Richie and they invited me to Richie’s moms house on his next visit…..(in 93-94)……….Richie and i sat down over some ‘split-pea soup’ his mom made and talked baseball for hours…it was an incredible experience…he was the same simple straight-forward guy he always appeared to be….he and i both have twin sisters so it gave us a wealth of stories to share. Then of course was his endless knowledge of baseball, and more importantly, my Phillies……it .was a definite high point in my life……

      Hey Rich………
I couldn’t agree more ! Whitey was the same down to earth guy you heard on TV and radio. I truly miss him everyday. On a completely different note, I see you survived growing up on one of the two longest row house streets in Philly. At some point, I’m sure we crossed paths, since I knew people on both Reinhard and Upland st………………………….jim donahue ( Bartram ’67 )
